The Local Area

Lincoln & Lincolnshire

Lincoln is a vibrant, ancient city, with a wealth of history, shopping and leisure opportunities in a compact setting. A guest at No. 10 could leave the car outside the cottage door and walk to the many attractions that Lincoln has to offer.

Set on cobbled streets with a quaint yet historic atmosphere, the Cathedral Quarter is a must see for any visitor. Castle Square nestles between Lincoln's magnificent Cathedral and Lincoln Castle where one of the four copies of the 1215 Magna Carta is now housed in a fabulous building that opened in 2015. Regular farmers' and artists' markets take place in the square. The famous Bailgate area has great shopping with quaint and quirky independent shops, while the award-winning picturesque Steep Hill is only moments away.

Two of Lincoln's best restaurants are less than five minutes' walk from the cottage and a diverse range of cafes, pubs and restaurants are located in the Bailgate area, Steephill and on Brayford Wharf, here you can sit and enjoy a drink or meal at the water's edge.

Lincoln also offers several aviation attractions, from World War II museums to present-day airfields. The county has a proud aviation heritage and the Red Arrows frequently practice nearby. Other attractions include the 'Battle of Britain Memorial Flight', the RAF Digby Lima Sector Operations Room, the 'The International Bomber Command Centre' which opened in April 2018, aviation heritage trails and heritage centres at RAF Waddington, RAF Scampton and RAF Cranwell.

Further afield the delights of the Lincolnshire Wolds and coast await the hustle and bustle of Skegness and Mablethorpe, the beautiful beach at Hutoft or the old fashioned charm of market towns; Alford, Louth and Horncastle. A combination of any of these destinations makes for a wonderful day out.
